Defense contractor BAE Systems, Inc., the U.S. division of its London-based parent, saw its U.S.-booked air volume increase to $32 million in 2023 from $25 million in 2022, with a projection of $35 million for 2024. Domestic air volume accounts for 91 percent of total travel.
The company in 2023 reviewed and standardized resources supporting international travel and continued to address safety-related initiatives. It also solicited feedback and tracked customer service scores for its operating sectors. In 2024, BAE Systems, Inc. is making its travel and expense system for all sectors consistent as well as transitioning a new sector into its portfolio. It also plans to make minor travel policy updates to retained-receipts requirements.
The company expects never to fully return to the office and does not anticipate seeing business travel return to pre-pandemic levels for several more years. Internal travel accounted for 26 percent of total travel in 2023, up from 24 percent in 2022. About 84 percent of U.S.-booked air travel is done through its preferred online booking tool, and about 81 percent of bookings did not require any agent assistance.
As of Dec. 31, 2023, the U.S. division employed about 31,600 people, accounting for 31 percent of the company's total workforce, and reported £10.7 billion in 2023 revenue, up about 5.3 percent year over year.
