2023 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $50M 

Battelle Memorial Institute is a newcomer in BTN’s Corporate Travel 100 list. The independent science and technology nonprofit had $50 million in 2023 U.S.-originating air travel, according to a BTN estimate.

Battelle does not publish scope 3 emissions data that would include business travel but has outfitted conference rooms with Webex and other videoconferencing tools and has pushed remote meetings instead of travel. From fiscal years 2023 to 2035, Battelle has a plan to reduce an additional 40 to 50 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions.

Battelle manages over 40,000 employees across nine laboratories in the United States.
