BTN estimates Fidelity Investments spent $40.4 million on
U.S.-booked air travel in 2023 as the multinational financial services
corporation’s travel picked up significantly year over year.
Fidelity Investments in 2023 traveled 140.2 million miles by
air for business travel, compared with 89.5 million miles in 2022. The air
travel translated to 28,059 equivalent metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent
emissions, which is 14.4 percent of Fidelity’s total emissions. Miscellaneous
business travel emissions—which include hotel nights, rental car mileage,
executive transport and rail travel—accounted for an additional 7,784 metric
tons of emissions.
Business travel emission levels in 2022 represented a 47
percent decline from pre-Covid levels in 2019. Even as business travel returns,
Fidelity employees are encouraged to host virtual meetings when possible, fly
direct or use rail when possible and to rent economy-sized cars.
The company has a hybrid work arrangement policy, with most
associated dividing their time between Fidelity workplaces and home offices.
Fidelity Investments reported $28.2 billion in revenue in
2023, up 12 percent from 2022. It employs more than 75,000 associates.
