Travel management highlights for medical device manufacturer Medtronic in 2023 included adding more countries to the managed program and staging a global car rental request for proposals. On the agenda for 2024 were global RFPs for airlines and a travel management company.
Medtronic has also introduced a digital tool from Cvent for meeting planners to request small meetings.
Medtronic does not expect its employees will ever return fully to office but it does believe business travel will regain pre-pandemic levels within the next couple of years. U.S.-booked air volume is forecast to rise from $66.2 million in 2023 to $70 million in 2024.
Employee numbers remained constant at 95,000 across 150 countries in the two years to its fiscal-year end in April 2024. Its U.S. headquarters are in Minneapolis. Revenue rose 3.6 percent to $32.4 billion in the year ending April 2024.
Medtronic does not set targets for or report on Scope 3 emissions, which include business travel. However, its most recent sustainability report noted a collaboration between Medtronic’s environmental action group of “environmentally conscious employees” and the company travel team. Together, the report says, they “added emissions data into our travel booking tool, adjusted our travel policy to encourage emissions considerations, and created an emissions equivalencies chart that helps travelers make more informed and environmentally conscious travel decisions.”
