Primary U.S. TMC: Amex GBT
Food and beverage company PepsiCo in 2023 spent about $63 million on U.S.-booked air travel, according to a BTN estimate.
The company had 318,000 employees as of December 2023, of whom 134,000 were based in the United States. Net revenue for 2023 climbed 6 percent year over year to $91 million.
PepsiCo has set a target of reducing Scope 3 emissions, which include business travel, by 40 per cent by 2030 compared with a 2015 baseline, but it had improved only 1 per cent from that baseline by 2023. The company stated that agriculture, packaging
and third-party transportation and distribution, all counted within Scope 3, accounted for 75 per cent of its total greenhouse gas emissions in 2023. No figures were given for business travel emissions.
In 2021 PepsiCo launched the Business Travel Inset Program, an internal carbon price mechanism that adds a carbon fee to the cost of each flight undertaken by employees. Revenues from the program are reinvested into regenerative agriculture projects.
