2023 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $37.5 million
Consolidated U.S. TMC: BCD Travel
BTN estimates enterprise resource software provider SAP
spent $37.5 million in U.S.-booked air in 2023, as the company reached a
milestone in its sustainability efforts.
SAP, whose products include market-dominant travel and
expense reporting provider Concur, reported reaching carbon neutrality in its
operations in 2023, with a combination of efforts to avoid, reduce and offset
emissions. On the travel side, that has included an effort to avoid flights by
investing in virtual collaboration technologies and charging an internal carbon
price for business flights, which are charged to organizational cost centers.
The practice began in 2016, and the carbon price per ticket increases every
year. The fee helps finance SAP’s offset projects.
Travel and commuting made up 1 percent of SAP’s total 6.9
million metric tons of carbon emissions reported in 2023.
SAP reported €31.2 billion in total revenue in 2023, up 6
percent year over year. The company reported 107,600 full-time equivalent
employees as of the end of 2023, up about 1,300 compared with 2022.
