2023 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $47.5 million
Consolidated Global TMC: FCM
Oil and gas conglomerate Shell plc spent about $47.5 million
in U.S.-booked air travel in 2023, according to a BTN estimate, about the same
as it did in 2022.
Shell's business travel, including air travel, hotel stays
and car rentals, in 2022 generated about 144,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide
equivalent emissions, and the company expects it generated a similar figure in
2023. Shell offset the travel-related Scope 3 emissions with project-based
carbon credits.
Shell has teamed with American Express Global Business
Travel and Accenture to launch Avelia, a blockchain-powered
"book-and-claim" program through which corporations can invest in
sustainable aviation fuel and be credited toward their sustainability targets. Shell
has committed to deliver nearly 50 million gallons of SAF to more than 30
participating airlines and corporations.
Shell in April 2022 announced it had signed a multiyear deal
with FCM to provide global travel management services. The company previously
used CWT as its consolidated travel management services provider.
